How is Meido different from Grok Bot?
Grok Bot runs each bot on a persistent cloud computer with a browser, files, and a terminal. Meido is a personal agent installed on your computer, with one continuous chat, local memory, and an Obsidian vault. They answer different questions: one keeps working while your laptop is closed, the other keeps the agent and its files on the machine you installed.
xAI’s docs list Grok and Grok Bot as separate products. This page is about Grok Bot. Tagging @bot on X hands a post to your main Grok Bot. That is a door into the same product, not a second one.
| Grok Bot | Meido | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the agent runs | A persistent cloud computer. Grok’s docs say those computers run in Cursor’s cloud. | Your machine |
| What the bots share | One computer per account: files, browser sessions, and app logins. Separate bot screens are not a security boundary. | One persona per folder, memory file, and secret list. Personas can still share the vault and the board. |
| How you reach it | The Grok Bot desktop and mobile apps. The same bot is available from both. | The local desk, plus optional Telegram, Discord, WhatsApp, and WeCom |
| Notes you keep | Files on that cloud computer, including a shared /workspace | An Obsidian vault on your machine |
| Models | Grok Bot’s own models. The overview names grok-4.7. | Classic, Cursor, Gemini ADK, or a local model, chosen per persona |
| Work while the laptop is shut | The cloud computer keeps going | Schedules run when this machine is on and Meido is running |
A Grok Bot touches the computer in front of you only when that capability is enabled and you approve it. The default local-computer policy is to ask every time.
How Meido does this
- The runtime stays on your machine. The desk is at 127.0.0.1:10961 unless you bind it further and set a web access token. See Web cockpit.
- The model is a choice, not the product. Connect a provider, including xAI, or point a persona at a local model server. See Models.
- Notes stay in your vault. Procedures are Markdown on disk, loaded when a turn needs them. See Vault and Schedules.
